ARSADA
(Arsa)
The antique city is located at a
distance of about 3 kms. from the village of Arsa, Kemer, in the south of the
Pınarbaşi district.at an altitude of 715 meters. There is a fast-flowing stream
at Pınarbaşi. Thus, we know that the name Arsada is derived from "akarsu" in our
language, meaning with a stream. The existence of this antique city, which is
not mentioned by any historian, was established from the inscription entitled
"the Honoured Decree of the People of Arsada" and from a silver coin. The name
Arsada is also passed on to the village of Arsa nearby. Arsada is among the
cities suffixed with "polis" during the Roman period.
Not much is standing today of the city
discovered by Spratt and Forbes. Spratt mentions the existence of partsof 3
Lycian inscriptions of which there is no trace today.
Most of the incripfions unearthed are
tombstones and the most interesting features are one Lycian tomb built in Gothic
style and a relief of figures found at the summit.
