FISHING
J. Laroche says, "As it is true for all
the coastline of Fethiye, there are so many fish at Belcegiz, all you have to do
is to cast your fishing tackle and all at once a fish seizes the bait."
Open-sea fishing is carried out by 434
fishermen and 240 fishing boats and there are 1 trawler, 4 boats with bag-shaped
fishing nets and 5 seiners in the territorial waters of our town. A total of 77
tons of fish is caught, composed of gilt-head bream, sea bass, bogue bream and
other varieties.
Freshwater fishing is carried out on a
arge scale and there are salmon trout farms at Oren, Yaka, Saklękent, Esenkoy,
Gurmedere and Cokek. The evaluation and processing unit at the Yaka village
exports its production abroad. As of the year 2001, the production of freshwater
fishery is 229 tons.
