OENOANDA (Incealiler)
Oenoanda is located on the north of
Belura stream, a branch of the Esen River,' at a distance of half-an-hour's
climb from the village of Incealiler. It is more easily accesible from the Seki plain. Close by, there is a smaller city
named Telmessos. An inscription unearthed starts with a letter of Hadrianus to
his people. and describes the ritual of sacrifice at the festivities.The.city
must have enjoyed a vivacious social life. The masopry of the Hellenistic and Roman periods is noteworthy. In
addition to cisterns and wells, there is a theater on the site.
Only one coin is discovered in the
area. The city was demolished greatly both by earthquakes and natural causes as well
as by looters. A few antique settlements around
the
city are also deserted. The famous scholar G.Bean relates that ruins in the
plains near the Girdev lake are also part of Oenoanda where the people had their
.summer houses.
