SIDYMA
(Dodurga)
The Dodurga village is reached by
branching off towards west from the Fethiye-Kas highway before Gölbent. A little
further on from Dodurga, there is the ancient city.
Sidyma prospered during the Roman Empire
as well as during the Byzantian period. The seven Sidyma sarcophagi are located
on a hill similar to the one at Pinara.
Cisterns and some pieces of earthenware
pots from the Byzantian period were discovered on the site, where the most
interesting feature is the twin sarcophagi built in the name or a father and a
son from the same family. There is a small theater, a broken-down bath and two
churches. At present the antique city is in ruins.
